Skills For Life

Youth who are making the transition to young adulthood need to acquire and maintain specific life skills in order to become self-sufficient.

SIL helps youth develop their talents and abilities through informal learning experiences and challenges.

The SIL program helps develop the skills youth need to survive:

  • Live Independently
    Obtain and maintain Housing

  • Community Living Skills
    Shopping, cooking, banking, cleaning

  • Increase Self-Esteem
    Paying rent, making decisions

  • Learn to Negotiate
    With landlords, workers, teachers

  • Education/Employment
    Learn about Community Educational Resources
Job search preparation support / Job seeking

Independent living is controlling and directing your own life. It's about making decisions, taking responsibility for your actions, learning through success and failure, and having opportunities to participate in all aspects of community life.

The SIL program helps youth reach this stage.
